CeBIT 2005 | Sony Cybershot DSC T7 digital camera preview

Saterday 12 March 2005 - 12:30 GMT - Reported by: Dennis Hissink

Sony Cybershot DSC T7 digital camera preview : During the CeBIT 2005 show, we came across the new Sony Cybershot T7, a digital camera with an exceptionally thin housing. Beside the ultra-thin appearance it's amazing to see how Sony succeeded in equipping the Sony T7 with a 3x optical zoom! Although the CeBIT 2005 show in fact has become an inferior version of what the CeBIT used to be, still the presentation of new products and innovations remain to stay on a high level. It's a welcoming surprise that Sony introduced a digital camera like the Sony Cybershot T7 just before the CeBIT kicked off. The Sony Cybershot T7 is really thin. You really notice it when you take the digital camera in your hand for the first time, simply amazing! When we talk about a life-style product, an eye-catcher or a digital jewel, then all these words describe the new Sony T7 digital camera. The design seems to have matured.

What previous models were striving for: ultra flat, large LCD monitor, optical zoom, seems to have become true with the Sony Cybershot T7. This latest Sony T7 is the thinnest digital camera in the present assortment. Despite the ultra-compact dimensions, Sony succeeded in equipping the digital camera with a large sized LCD monitor. The monitor's size is as big as 2.5 inch !

Sony Cybershot DSC T7 - Imaging and Quality
Sony is getting really serious by equipping the camera with 5.1 Megapixel resolution. High resolution without high quality optics is like bread without butter, so to speak. Therefore it's rather obvious that we find a 3x optical zoom with Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optics in the camera beside the high resolution. If we turn the camera around, looking at its rear, the large sized monitor strikes us immediately, it is huge compared to the size of the Sony T7. Besides the large size, the Sony engineers have also worked very hard to improve the monitor by applying an anti reflection Clear Photo LCD. The quality of the monitor is extremely high, as far as we could observe during CeBIT circumstances. A high contrast, brightness and vivid colour rendition in combination with a high resolution is guaranteed to deliver good quality. The size of the monitor is ideal for sharing the captured images with family and friends.

Sony Cybershot DSC T7 - Simplicity and Size
The Sony design department must have gone to the absolute max. We have seen many introductions and announcements over the past few years, but looking at this Sony Cybershot T7, for the first time we are really convinced. A photographer who is sensitive about the design but who doesn't want to give up on Megapixel resolution or quality, will find the Sony T7 the perfect companion. However high quality the technique is, the Sony Cybershot T7 beams with simplicity. Slide the front lens cover down and the Sony T7 is ready to use within a second. Sony's Real Imaging Processor circuitry in the Cyber-shot T7 is lighting fast, so it can shoot full-resolution images at approximately one-second intervals.

Sony Cybershot DSC T7 - User-friendliness
The camera's preset scenes (Scene Selection) assist the user to select a mode, and the camera will make all necessary adjustments depending on the situation or the kind of image that has to be captured. In fact, these settings enable taking perfect pictures without having to worry about settings, a good result will be achieved. A strong trump of the Sony Cybershot T1 is the macro function. Once activated, a minimum distance of 1cm from the subject is advised, very impressive!

Sony Cybershot T7 - Memory Stick Duo Support
Just like the size of the camera: its small dimensions do not restrict its possibilities. The application of a Memory Stick Duo format memory card does not restrict the storage capacity. On the contrary; Sony introduced a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo memory card in the past few days. This large storage capacity is sufficient to capture everything the user wants to capture during, for example, a long-lasting holiday.

Sony Cybershot DSC T7 - Memory Card Speed
The availability of the high capacity memory card and to be more specific, the speed in which the new memory cards can store and handle data, it is possible to record high quality video clips. The Sony T7 has a so-called MPEG-VX setting to store MPEG videos with a resolution of 640x480 pixels at a speed of 30 frames per second.
